Do you want to see a miracle? Let me show you one…
This is my son Jimmy. My inspiration. Born a perfectly healthy baby boy…
At 4 months old he was diagnosed with an Optic Pathway Glioma brain tumor, hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and nystagmus (shaking of the eyes). We told by the medical professionals to fear the worst and he could die at any moment. We were sent home two days later after Jimmy received one treatment of chemo therapy.
I could write a book about his story, all the twists and turns and everything we had to overcome..in fact I will, but until then this is what I want you to know….
We chose unwavering faith, we trusted in each turn of events, we chose life. These pictures are of Jimmy when he was born, at 4 months old and at ages one, two, three, four, five and of course recent pics. Jimmy is now 5 1/2 years old.
Jimmy has had over 25 MRI’s with general anesthesia, countless pokes, over 45 chemo therapy treatments, a port surgery, physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and a ton of other obstacles that no child should have to face. Yet he faced every one of them with a smile, a kind understanding in his eyes and an all-knowing factor that what was going on was for a greater good.
He inspires everyone he meets, asks them questions with complete sincerity and has an empathy for people of all ages that I have ever witnessed. He has been my greatest teacher in life. Jimmy is my “you were born to do this moment,” and he continues to be every day.
Oh and before I forget, Jimmy’s tumor has gone from the size of a fist to the size of a pea. It has been stable for over a year and a half. He has not needed a single medical treatment in that time. His hydrocephalus is gone and he never needed a shunt. His nystagmus has also disappeared. Jimmy is in Kindergarten with his peers of the same age learning right along side them. He still fights everyday, five years later and lives life the way it should be lived…with unconditional love and kindness to everyone he meets.
If you need inspired just look in his eyes and keep going, one foot in front of the other. Remember you were born to do this.
